Abstract: The magnetic gear is useful in increasing the torque density in a contactless way. Compared with the traditional mechanical gear, magnetic gear is good for having higher efficiency, less maintenance effort, less acoustic noise. Due to the electromagnetic design of the magnetic gear, it can be embedded in the electric machine in a much more compact way. It is quite promising to investigate this magnetic gear for meeting the ever increasing demand of higher torque density application.
Most of the contemporary magnetic gear design without electromagnetics coil mimics the existing mechanical gear design. Among the latest mechanical gear design, the mechanical harmonic gear can provide the highest gear ratio in a compact dimension. However, there was not too many detail investigation has been made about the magnetic harmonic gear.
Thus, in this dissertation, the design parameter of the magnetic harmonic gear will be discussed.
In this dissertation, the first chapter will be an introduction about the development of magnetic gear; together with the objective and tool of analysis of this dissertation.
The second chapter will mention the analytical model of magnetic gear. The working principle of the magnetic gear will be briefly elaborated with the help of equation. Also, some design concern of magnetic gear will be included. The operating principle of mechanical and magnetic harmonic gear will also be presented.
The third chapter contains the detail simulation model information. Then the design parameter of magnetic harmonic gear will be listed. A comparison will be made with the simulated magnetic harmonic gear and the commercial mechanical harmonic gear.
The last chapter will be a summary for the magnetic harmonic gear design and a discussion on future work.
