Abstract: This study aims to investigate the behavior of individual investors in Hong Kong stock market. The objectives of this study are: 1. To investigate relationships between the degree of risk aversion, portfolio diversification and demographic characteristics of individual investors. 2. To study the decision variables for individual investors in making stock investment decisions. 3. To study the decision variables affecting individual investors in choosing a stock broker or agent. 4. To study the satisfaction level of individual investors on information disseminated to them. 5. To study how individual investors respond when the risk level increases. A survey, in the form of questionnaire, was conducted in October 1998 to collect primary data for this study. It is hoped that the findings of this study will provide a ground work for further research studies on individual investors, provide background knowledge for unit funds and stockbroking firms in forming their marketing plans and improving their service quality.
