Abstract: Venture capital investment processes have stayed in its comfort zone for decades while facing challenges in adverse selection, information asymmetry and moral hazard. Until recently the financial technology (FinTech) innovation phenomenon arose with a promise to disrupt traditional financial domains, services, and processes. This essay explores how FinTech innovation impacts existing challenges within the venture capital investment cycle. Through the lens of venture capital finance theory, the paper captures investment process characteristics at four distinctive stages: sourcing, screening, portfolio management, exit. More importantly, I document the impact of FinTech innovation on these processes. By further aligning findings with case study on FinTech private securities exchange platform, I develop an analytical framework that complements the theoretical model through the alignment of process standardization and innovation.
