This study is about Korean language tour guides who have at least six months of work experience in the East China region including Shanghai and Hangzhou. The work is focused on the investigation of the tour guides' job satisfaction and factors affecting their job satisfaction and turnover intention. High employee turnover in the travel industry has become one of the major concerns for travel agency managers. Many studies have found that turnover is related to job satisfaction and the importance of job facets perceived by employees. The study examines the relationship between demographic characteristics of travel guides and job satisfaction, and also examines the importance of job related factors. Data were collected through questionnaires. Frequency distributions, Factor analysis, Bivariate, Regression independent-samples t-test and one-way ANOVA were used to analyze the data. The study findings show that there are significant differences between demographic variables of travel guides and the six Job Descriptive Index (JDI) categories. It is suggested that training and development programmes, particularly for newcomers and well-educated travel guides, and a total quality management approach may help improve job satisfaction with the job. Through the findings in the study it is suggested that travel agencies could shorten the gaps to promote job satisfaction and minimize the turnover intention by optimizing human resources strategies in recruiting new travel guides, advocating life-long profession and building ideal working environment.en_US
